Ahok Asks ICW to Check City Officials’ Lifestyle

Jakarta Governor Basuki ‘Ahok’ Tjahaja Purnama asked the Indonesia Corruption Watch (ICW) to check the lifestyle of Jakarta Provincial Government officials.

“I want ICW to check city officials’ lifestyle. I want to know who love to go abroad and how many times. They have gangs,” stated Ahok when giving culture speech on ‘Democracy without Corruption’ event which held by ICW and also attended by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) commissioner Bambang Wijoyanto, at National Museum, Jalan Medan Merdeka Barat, Central Jakarta, Sunday (12/14).

According to Ahok, all of the problems happening in Jakarta are rooted in the rampant corruption action.

“All of city’s problems, like traffic, flood, et cetera, their root is corruption. If we taken care of this, all integrated services could be resolved properly,” he uttered.

Moreover, Ahok stressed that he will not hesitate in eradicating corruption firmly in leading Jakarta Provincial Government.

“If the head (leader) is straight, the subordinate is also straight. At least, if I’m straight, my subordinates would not dare to deviate,” he said.

Ahok also disclosed that by the end of this year, many city officials whose performances are bad will be demoted and replaced by young and honest staff to improve Jakarta.

“City officials who are not good (in work performance) will be demoted. It’s okay to try firing people. If wrong, just return them. Instead of thinking they were good but turned out not and the programs are left behind,” he expressed.

To all city administration ranks, Ahok have instructed them to be transparent in doing their duties, including by recording and uploading to Youtube the meetings on budget discussion held with the City Council (DPRD).

“If council members refused to be recorded, I’ve asked the SKPD (Provincial Working Unit) not to serve them,” he asserted.

In addition, Ahok told that Jakarta would be a smart city, so the people would know the condition of the capital city and its handling.

“With smart city concept, people would know better the condition of Jakarta. Hopefully all programs in Jakarta could be completed,” he said.
